The Government Medical Officers Association warns that the worsening of the fuel crisis has led to a serious collapse of the entire health system.
Dr. Haritha Aluthge, Secretary of the Government Medical Officers’ Association, said that it has not been possible to provide fuel even for the ambulances and the transport of medicines has collapsed and the generators have not been able to operate.
He said that there is a situation where doctors and health professionals cannot even report for duty due to lack of fuel.
He also mentioned that the fuel crisis has become serious in many peripheral hospitals such as Vavuniya, Moneragala, Siyambalanduwa, Kurunegala and Galgamuwa.
He also mentioned that the authorities should immediately reveal to the country what is the priority in providing fuel to the health professionals who have to report to work daily in a background where most of the state sector employees work from home which is practically impossible for health workers.
