The emergency law was passed in the parliament today with a majority of 57 votes.
Among the MPs who voted in favor of it were Mr. Wimal Weerawansa and six independent MPs.
The number of MPs who did not participate in today’s meeting to vote, including former President Maithripala Sirisena, is 18.
