Mr. Wajira Abeywardena, a former minister, was sworn in as a member of the National List of the United National Party (UNP) in Parliament some time ago.
It is for the post of MP that became vacant after Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe became President.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Susil Premjayantha has been appointed as the new Leader of the Parliament.
Mr. Dinesh Gunawardena held the previous position of Leader of the house. Mr. Premjayantha has been appointed to the vacant position of Leader of the House as Dinesh Gunawardena is now the Prime Minister.
It is also reported that Minister Prasanna Ranatunga has been reappointed as the chief organizer of the ruling party.
