Private bus services will be reduced to 50% from tomorrow (06) due to the diesel crisis, bus associations said.
The President of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association Gemunu Wijeratne stated that although it was said that diesel would be provided through the SLTB depot, it was not practical.
Therefore, this decision will be taken, he said.
Chairman of the Inter-Provincial Private Bus Association Sarath Vijitha Kumara says that long distance buses will also be disrupted due to the disruption of bus services.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport states that a program is being prepared to provide fuel for public transport services including passenger buses.
Its secretary, RWR Pemasiri, said it had decided to take the necessary steps in consultation with the Minister of Power and Energy.
