Kiriella Disaster Relief Officer Punsiri Karunaratne died in floodwaters today (01) while on duty.
The Disaster Management Center stated that he had died after being caught in a flood wave while monitoring the flood situation in the Ratnapura area.
He was returning home from disaster relief work when the accident occurred. Punsiri Karunaratne, a graduate of the University of Jayewardenepura, was 41 years old at the time of his death.
