The Ministry of Education has launched a formal investigation into an incident in which a student who sat for the GCE Ordinary Level Examination was abused by an examination hall invigilator.
The incident had taken place on the 25th at a school examination center in Hindogama.
The invigilator had sexually harassed a student who was appearing for the O/L examination under the pretext of helping answer a question paper.
The Minister of Education paid special attention to this and instructed the Commissioner of Examinations to conduct a full investigation into the above matters and submit a report with immediate effect.
Accordingly, a report was called from the North Central Provincial Director of Education regarding the above matter.
According to the report, the following steps have been taken.
- Recording a statement from the victim student
- Recording a statement from the Chief of the Examination Hall
- Recording a statement from the Assistant Chief
- Recording a statement from the accused invigilator
- Recording the statements of the other candidates who appeared for the examination at that time in the hall
According to the above reports, Hindogama Police have arrested the accused invigilator and remanded him after producing him in court.
The Ministry of Education has announced that a formal investigation will be carried out at the departmental level and disciplinary action will be taken against the accused.
