President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa today expressed his full support to the Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe.
The President made this statement at a meeting with Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe and Central Bank Monetary Board member Sanjeewa Jayawardena at the President’s House, Fort.
President Rajapaksa commended Nandalal Weerasinghe for his efforts to control and alleviate the financial crisis that prevailed shortly after assuming office as the Governor of the Central Bank. Mr. Nandalal Weerasinghe told the President that the program being carried out in consultation with the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and other financial institutions with the contribution of experts in the field of economics has made successful progress. Mr. Weerasinghe explained the action plan for controlling inflation and strengthening the economy.
The President stated that the government will support the process to continue without political interference, the Presidential Media Unit said.
President Rajapaksa expressed confidence that the Governor of the Central Bank would be able to achieve social and economic stability by continuing the ongoing operations, and stated that he was ready to intervene at the state level when necessary to ensure the success of the International Monetary Fund, including Nandalal Weerasinghe.
