The Parliamentary Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) has directed the Excise Department to set standards for liquor as soon as possible.
The State Accounts Committee has also directed the Excise Department to gazette the relevant standards immediately.
The Excise Department has informed the Government Accounts Committee that standards for liquor are being prepared in collaboration with the Government Analyst’s Department and the Standards Institution.
The State Accounts Committee has also directed the Excise Department to take necessary steps to prevent certain liquor companies from creating a monopoly in the market by imposing various conditions.
