The Petroleum Distributors Association states that about 40 filling stations have been closed islandwide.
The General Secretary of the union Kapila Naotunna stated that this situation has arisen due to consumers intimidating filling station employees to obtain fuel.
He further stated that 5 incidents of assaulting filling station managers and employees have been reported so far.
He said due to this the fuel ordered for those filling stations has been canceled again by them.
The Petroleum Distributors’ Association further stated that another large number of filling stations will be closed in the future if the fuel distribution is not assisted in a systematic manner.
