Rambukkana Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the theft of a stock of explosives from a warehouse of a private company engaged in the construction of the Central Expressway, along with a stock of explosives.
The theft had taken place on the 11th in the Dobemada area in Rambukkana.
The arrested suspect is a 30-year-old resident of Udagaladeniya, Rambukkana.
Police say that the arrested suspect has revealed that the stolen explosives were in the possession of another person involved in the robbery. Accordingly, when a police team raided the other person’s house in Hewadiwala, Rambukkana last evening, the suspect had fled from the house. During a search carried out of the house and garden, police found 33kg 625g of explosives called water gel and 200 electric detonators in the back of the house.
The arrested suspect was produced before the Kegalle Magistrate’s Court today and remanded till the 26th.
