Six sluice gates of Rajanganaya Reservoir are opened.
The sluice gates have been opened due to the reservoir overflowing from heavy rains.
The National Disaster Management Center says that heavy showers exceeding 100 mm are expected in the North, North Central, North Western, Eastern, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, and some parts of the Central Provinces.
The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has said that the current heavy rainfall over the island will increase the capacity to generate more hydropower.
