The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) says they are seeking the assistance of overseas doctors and Sri Lankans to address the shortage of medicines in hospitals across the country.
The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) says that there is a severe shortage of drugs in hospitals across the country due to the poor economic management of the government and therefore the health authorities should find a solution to this problem.
The union says neither the health authorities nor the government have been able to guarantee the basic human rights of the people, the right to life and access to health care.
Therefore, the union states that they will submit five proposals to the government, including declaring a state of emergency for health.
The five proposals are to review the quality of drugs and equipment being convened by all health authorities, to set up a technical committee by the Ministry of Health to manage existing drugs, to seek international assistance and assistance from Sri Lankans living abroad, and to obtain foreign aid.
The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) says that the government should ensure the basic human rights of the people by providing adequate financial assistance to the Ministry of Health.
