    Former vaninet minister Athauda Senevirathna passed away

    Former Cabinet Minister Athauda Senevirathna has passed away while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo.

    He was born on September 9, 1931 and was 91 years old at the time of his death.

    Athauda Seneviratne, a teacher by profession, entered politics from the Lanka Sama Samaja Party. He later joined the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and served as the Mawanella electorate organizer and Kegalle district organizer.

    Athauda Seneviratne was elected to the Morana Gam 12 Pattu Gam Sabha in 1954 and first entered Parliament in 1970 representing the Lanka Sama Samaja Party.

    Athauda Seneviratne, who has also served as the Leader of the Opposition and Chief Minister of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council, also held several Cabinet portfolios representing Parliament from time to time until 2015.
