Industry Minister SB Dissanayake said Sri Lanka’s gem export earnings will increase to US $ 1 billion this year.
At present, Sri Lanka’s gem export earnings are US $ 265 million and plans are afoot to increase it to US $ 1 billion, the Minister said.
He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the online marketplace to export gems and jewelery to the international market, in Colombo yesterday (23).
The new system will enable the people involved in the gem industry to sell gems and jewelery worth less than US $ 3,000 through online to international buyers.
Mr. S. B. Dissanayake said that the country would be able to export gems through a new system that would provide the required dollars to the country.
