Election Commission Chairman Attorney-at-Law Mr. Nimal G. Punchihewa expresses confidence that Provincial Government Elections will be held this year.
He emphasized that the commission would be empowered to hold local government elections after September 20. The Election Commission is ready for an election at any time, he said.
The sovereign power of the people is the vote and the Provincial government election has been postponed by the Minister in charge of the subject for a year now, said the Chairman of the Elections Commission.
He also said that the legal matters required to hold the Provincial Council elections should be resolved through Parliament.
