Neelaka, who abducted a seven-year-old child from a woman from firing a gun to the sky, was shot dead by police in the Kandana area in Horana this evening.
According to the police, he was killed in a shootout with the police at Wellapitiya, Horana.
The suspect is the father of the abducted child. He has abducted the child while the child was in the mother of his wife’s custody. The suspect had assaulted his wife a few days ago and had her limbs cut off and she is currently receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, police said.
The child was abducted last night while police were searching for him for the crime.
According to the police, the suspect named Neelaka is involved in a number of crimes including murders.
Police also found the T-56 weapon used by the man to shoot the police.
Police say the abducted child was not at the scene of the shooting.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa stated that investigations are underway to find the child.
