A boat carrying 07 Pakistanis carrying narcotics was raided

The Navy has nabbed 7 Iranian nationals with a multi-day trawler belonging to Iran carrying a large consignment of heroin and ice from Pakistan to Sri Lanka.

The raid was carried out on the 6th of last month in the deep sea south of Sri Lanka after several weeks of explorations in the deep sea involving heavy guards.

It is said that as the Navy attack boats approached the multi-day trawler, the smugglers had dumped stocks of narcotics into the sea. Officers were able to photograph and videotape how the drugs were dumped into the sea.

However, the smugglers and the vessel that had entered Sri Lankan waters without permission were brought to the Port of Colombo by the Navy today.

The operation was launched under the direction of SSP Sudath Masinghe in charge of the Batticaloa Division, according to information received by intelligence officers serving in the Batticaloa Division.

On two previous occasions, 506 kilos of heroin along with 16 Pakistanis were found during raids conducted by the police team in the deep sea.

Investigations have revealed that the drug trafficking was carried out by a powerful Sri Lankan drug dealer currently based in Dubai. Sources also revealed that he is the main importer of narcotics in Sri Lanka. A lot of information has been revealed about the Sri Lankan agents involved in the racket and the Police Narcotics Bureau is currently conducting investigations with the assistance of the international community.
