The General Manager of the Railways Dhammika Jayasundara says that there are about 7000 vacancies in the Railway Department.
Although the approved staff is 21,000, the Railway Department currently employs only 13,000 employees, he said.
Due to this, there is a problem in running the train service without any hindrance, he said.
He said that discussions were held yesterday (1) with the transport authorities to fill the vacancies and obtain the approved staff.
The General Manager of the Railways further said that if the vacancies are filled within a short period of time, it will be possible to restore the train service and maintain an efficient train service.
