While the world battling the very well known Omicron Covid strain, scientists in France have discovered 12 patients in France infected with new IHU strain which has 46 mutations.
The new variant B.1.640.2, named IHU, has now been found in South-Eastern France.
The first infected person was said to have received two vaccines with a history of travel to Cameroon, West Africa the researchers said in a paper published in medRxiv.
However, the researchers said that the discovery of a new variant did not mean that the IHU variant would be as contagious as other variants such as Omicron.
Analysts have identified 46 “mutations” not found in other countries, and have not yet been named by the World Health Organization as a research variant.
