    Gas tanks which emit an odor during a gas leak will be available in the market from tomorrow

    Minister of State Lasantha Alagiyawanna stated in Parliament today (04) that a standardized household gas containing mercaptan, which can be used to detect odors in the event of a gas leak, will be released to the market from tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.

    He also stated that the investigation reports have confirmed that the gas contained in the two Litro and Laugfs gas vessels that have arrived at the Port of Colombo are up to the standards.

    The committee that supervised the imported gas vessels, the Accreditation Board, the Sri Lanka Standards Institution, the Institute of Industrial Technology and the Consumer Affairs Authority yesterday took gas samples from the ships and sent them to the laboratory of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.

    Minister of State Lasantha Alagiyawanna states that according to the relevant report, the imported gas is up to standard.

    A press release issued by the Consumer Affairs Authority states that the following decisions have been taken in releasing domestic gas to the market from tomorrow.

    1. No release of previously imported gas
    2. Includes mercaptan to detect odors according to standard before new inventory is released
    3. During the manufacturing process of these gas cylinders, one out of every 100 is inspected and serial numbered and submitted to the Consumer Affairs Authority
