The one day service of issuing National Identity Cards which was temporarily suspended due to the Covid epidemic will be resumed from Monday the 25th, said the Commissioner General of the Department for Registration of Persons, Mrs. Vijayani Goonathilaka.
She added that the Head Office in Battaramulla and the Southern Provincial Office in Galle are preparing to issue one day service identity cards to a limited number of customers considering the risk of a large number of clients gathering at the department premises at the same time.
Those who wish to obtain a one day service should confirm their application with the Grama Niladhari and forward it to the NIC Branch office located at the relevant Divisional Secretariat and reserve a day and time for the one day service, said Mrs. Wijayani Goonathilaka. If a person is unable to attend on the due date, they will have to obtain another date from the Divisional Secretariat, she said.
At present, applicants who have booked numbers to obtain National Identity Cards under the General Services can also come to the Department on the due date and obtain their National Identity Cards. She further states that applications for general services can be submitted to the Department of Registration of Persons by the Grama Niladhari.
