The academic activities of about 3000 primary schools in schools with less than 200 children will commence from today.
This is being implemented under the program of reopening the schools for academic activities from today (21) which were closed due to the Covid epidemic.
This is the first time since last April that schools have opened for academic purposes.
The Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardena stated that steps will be taken to gradually open other schools in the country for academic activities in the next few weeks.
Although schools have been reopened for academic purposes, several teachers’ and principals’ unions, including the Ceylon Teachers’ Union, have gone on strike today and tomorrow (22) and have decided to continue teaching in schools from the 25th.
