    0

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said that the queue era and the ration era are once again being created in the country.

He points out that day by day the government is pushing the people into oppression, unrest and unfortunate fate.

The only thing that is happening from time to time is changing the heads (people) of positions, he said.

He said that although the government is working to move towards a closed economy, what they should have managed is the macroeconomic variables and giving a financial boost to the people of this country.

He said that although there should be a complete change in the economic policy of this country, the present government is implementing a sham and the government has started a musical chair competition to change ministers.

The Leader of the Opposition said that the country is now bankrupt and that the present government has no ability to rebuild the country through this bankruptcy.

He was speaking at the 26th phase of the ‘Jana Suwaya’ social service program in Debarawewa, Tissamaharama today (11).

Samagi Jana Balawegaya donates Rs. 35 lakhs (Rs. 3,500,000) to the Tissamaharama Base Hospital as the 26th Phase of the ‘Jana Suwa’ CSR Project aimed at creating a healthy country in line with the ‘Wipakshayen Husmak’ program.

Accordingly, the Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa donated 4 essential tools, Image Plate and Cassete, PRIME T 2 Image Digitizer, FCR Prima Console, DRYPIX IMGER 4 included in FUJI COMPUTED RADIOGRAPHY SYSTEM to Dr. Prabath Weerasiri, Specialist Surgeon, Tissamaharama Base Hospital.

This is a donation made by the Leader of the Opposition with the intervention of Hambantota District Parliamentarian Dilip Wedarachchi and all the organizers of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya electorate in that district.

When the Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa visited the Ranasinghe Premadasa Pirivena in Debarawewa, Tissamaharama on August 13, an official of the Tissamaharama Debarawewa Hospital who was present at the scene reminded the Leader of the Opposition of the need for the aforesaid hospital equipment.

This shortcoming was rectified today in accordance with the assurance given by the Leader of the Opposition on that day to meet the needs of the relevant hospitals.

The Samagi Jana Balawega Parliamentarians, Organizers, Members, Foreign Branches of the party, local and foreign supporters and the “Janasuwaya” Project are working together to implement the “Wipakshayen Husmak” program to provide health relief to the people affected by the Corona disaster.

In the previous 25 rounds, Samagi Janabalawegaya provided hospital equipment worth Rs. 749 lakhs (Rs. 74,994,000).

100 percent cash deposit margin will stabilize exchange rate

    1

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka introduced a Margin Deposit Requirement against the importation of selected non-essential/non-urgent goods. The policy is expected to support the ongoing efforts to preserve the stability of the exchange rate and foreign currency market liquidity, particularly by discouraging excessive imports of speculative nature.

The 100% cash deposit margin was emplaced on goods that were imported excessively over the first seven months of 2021. Telecommunication device (mobile phones and fixed telephones) imports stood at US$ 250 million in January – July period of 2021, while US$ 268.4 million and US$ 247 million were spent annually in 2020 and 2019 respectively. Due to the excessive importation of mobile phones carried out by importers in the first seven months of the year, there is sufficient supply for the remainder of the year.

The policy discourages the importation of certain goods that were speculatively over purchased and others deemed non-essential/non-urgent. The reduced pressure on the foreign currency market will increase the stability of the exchange rate set by the central bank. This will allow Sri Lanka to import essential goods such as fuel, wheat, sugar and other food items at a cheaper rate reducing the burden on households.
