    “Pfizer Vaccine will be given for school children as soon as it is Medically approved” – President

    The government is focusing on giving the Pfizer vaccine to school children in certain age groups as soon as they receive medical approval.

    President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has stated this at the Covid Committee meeting held today.

    Covid vaccination for young people between the ages of 20-29 started yesterday. The need to complete it within the next two weeks was also pointed out.

    The President pointed out the need to move the country’s economy forward by adapting to the new normalization system with the success achieved by vaccination.

    The committee had met today as an online meeting in view of the prevailing Covid situation.

    Due to the closure of the country for more than 3 months in 2020, the country’s economy took a negative turn. The President said that as a country with a small economy, all parties must make responsible decisions while realizing the reality and moving forward to protect the economy.

    Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Finance said that the success of the vaccination program, despite the implementation of the curfew, was a great relief to the economy.

    Many countries in the world are opening up to the tourism industry. At the same time, the President pointed out the potential for successful outcomes through correct decision making.

    The President also instructed the Heads of the Health Sector to expedite the issuance of health recommendations for the promotion of tourism operations in line with the Covid Suppression Program.

    Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Ministers Basil Rajapaksa, Keheliya Rambukwella, Dallas Alahapperuma, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Ramesh Pathirana, Namal Rajapaksa, Prasanna Ranatunga, State Ministers Sudarshani Pura, Chief Adviser to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary to the Health Major General Dr. Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Director General of Health Dr. Asela Gunawardena and Commanders of the three Armed Forces, Members of the Special Committee for the Suppression of Cowards and Provincial Directors of Health were also present in the occasion.
