Embilipitiya Police have arrested two youths for trying to extort Rs. 200,000 from a woman by threatening to publish nude photos on her face.
The two youths were arrested yesterday (27) following an investigation into a complaint lodged with the police by a woman living in Embilipitiya whose husband living abroad.
They are aged 23 and 20 and reside in Polonnaruwa and Angoda. The youth from Polonnaruwa has passed the GCE Advanced Level examination and has been selected to enter the Engineering Faculty of the University of Moratuwa. The youth from Angoda is preparing to go abroad to work in a private hospital, police said.
Police say that the two youths had got to know each other through Facebook. The two have not met each other and they got to know the married woman in Embilipitiya through Facebook. Police say that they have taken photos from the woman’s Facebook, stripped her of the photos through software and threatened her by showing the edited photos to her through a fake Facebook account.
It is said that they have made this threat following maximum security measures technically. The police were able to nab the suspects through a bank account provided by them to pay the ransom. According to the police, the woman had initially deposited Rs. 10,000 in the account.
