Nike’s parent company has confirmed to the Sri Lankan Ministry of External Affairs that the NIKE shoes with the LTTE logo circulating on social media are not manufactured by their company.
Nike has informed the Ministry of External Affairs that it has launched an investigation into the misuse of intellectual property.
Sri Lankan intelligence has also launched an investigation into the pair of shoes, and Nike says its aim is to find out who made the fake pair.
As the LTTE is still a banned organization in Sri Lanka, promotions using the organization’s logo are subject to legal liability.
Following is the statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs in this regard today.
Fake ‘NIKE’ shoe video with LTTE logo circulating on social media.
“The Ministry has drawn attention to a video of a pair of shoes with the logo ‘NIKE’ and ‘LTTE’ circulating on social media.
The shoes in the video were not manufactured by NIKE, which was confirmed by Nike in an inquiry.
Nike has further stated that it is investigating allegations of misappropriation of intellectual property and appropriate enforcement of company practice.”
