Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shani Abeysekara has been appointed as the new Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), according to official sources.
The appointment was made with the approval of the National Police Commission.
Prior to this, SSP Abeysekara served as the Director of the Criminal Intelligence Analysis and Prevention Division on a contract basis.
He previously held the position of CID Director from 2017 to 2019, and was reinstated to the police service in October 2024 under the administration of the National People’s Power (NPP) government.
