Professor Lalith Chandralal, Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), announced that a decision has been made to increase electricity tariffs by 15% overall.
According to the announcement, the tariff hike is set to take effect starting today.
Professor Chandralal made this statement during a special media briefing held at the PUCSL headquarters.
He stated that the electricity tariff increase comes in response to a request by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Economic analysts warn that, as a result, the prices of many essential goods and services are also likely to rise.
