The Constitutional Council yesterday (21) rejected the nomination proposed by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for the post of Auditor General.
The rejected nominee was H.T.P. Chandana, a current director at the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation. A vote was held within the Council, and the majority voted against the nomination.
Among those who supported the nomination were Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, Leader of the House Bimal Rathnayake, and MP Abubakar Athambawa. However, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, MP Ajith P. Perera, and three representatives from civil society voted against it.
A new nominee will now be proposed for the Auditor General position.
