Deputy Minister of Agriculture Namal Karunaratne stated that today’s animal census was highly successful, with hundreds of thousands of people enthusiastically participating.
He mentioned that his wife and son also took part in the census on their small 60-perch land, where they counted three monkeys. Later, upon visiting a nearby temple, he counted around thirty more monkeys in that area.
Karunaratne expressed gratitude to the public, government officials, and media organizations for their support in the census.
However, several organizations have criticized the census, claiming it was ineffective and did not provide a comprehensive count. Many individuals, including clergy and laypeople, voiced concerns through the media about its overall accuracy.
