A tense situation unfolded outside the Ministry of Education in Isurupaya, Battaramulla, as police tried to break up a protest by Development Officers. The officers were demanding permanent jobs in the teaching service.
During the protest, the Kottawa-Borella Road (174 bus route) was completely blocked, causing heavy traffic. The situation turned violent, with several police officers getting injured and three protestors being arrested.
