    Who is the president? – The decision is today

    The voting for the election to select Sri Lanka’s 9th Executive President commenced today (21st) at 7 AM.

    The Election Commission has urged all eligible voters to visit their respective polling stations early and cast their valuable vote.

    Accordingly, voting will take place across the country from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM today at 13,421 polling stations.

    This election has the highest number of presidential candidates in Sri Lanka’s history, with 39 candidates initially running, though the number was reduced to 38 following the death of candidate Mohamed Illiyas.

    A total of 17,140,354 eligible voters are registered for this election.

    Among the 22 electoral districts, Gampaha District has the highest number of registered voters, with 1,881,129 eligible to vote.

    Colombo District has 1,765,351 registered voters, Kurunegala District has 1,417,226, and Kandy District has 1,191,399 eligible voters.

    Other districts with significant numbers of registered voters include Kalutara (1,024,244), Ratnapura (923,736), Galle (903,163), Anuradhapura (741,862), and Kegalle (709,622).

    Badulla District has 705,772 registered voters, and Matara District has 686,175 eligible voters.

    Puttalam District has 663,673 eligible voters, while Nuwara Eliya District has 605,292.

    The Election Commission reports that the Jaffna electoral district, which includes Jaffna and Kilinochchi, has 593,187 registered voters.

    In Digamadulla District, there are 555,432 eligible voters, and in Hambantota District, there are 520,940.

    Batticaloa District has 449,686 registered voters, while Matale District has 429,991 eligible to vote in this presidential election.

    Monaragala District has 399,166 voters, Polonnaruwa has 351,302, and Trincomalee has 315,925 eligible voters.

    The district with the fewest registered voters is the Vanni electoral district, which includes Vavuniya, Mannar, and Mullaitivu, with a total of 306,081 registered voters, according to the Election Commission.

    The polling division with the highest number of registered voters for this presidential election is Homagama, in the Colombo District, with 215,075 eligible voters.
