Election Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake has provided clarification on how to correctly mark votes for the upcoming presidential election on the 21st.
The correct way to mark votes during the presidential election is as follows:
You can mark your vote using ‘1’ and use ‘2’ and ‘3’ to indicate preferences. You may also mark only the vote using either ‘1’ or an ‘X.’
Therefore, do not use both ‘1’ and ‘X’ to mark your vote.
Do not use any other marks, symbols, or numbers along with ‘X.’
Do not mark a series of numbers such as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
Speaking during a program, the Election Commissioner General also discussed what happens if no candidate secures over 50% of the vote.
He stated, “Once we receive the total results, the commission will decide and provide instructions for counting the preferences.”
