A special state pardon has been granted to 289 prisoners on the occasion of Poson Poya today.
According to the powers assigned to the President through Article 34 of the Constitution, the President has granted the pardon.
Prison Commissioner and Media Spokesman Mr. Gamini B. Dissanayake says that this group of prisoners who were sentenced for minor offenses and who met the relevant conditions were released from prisons across the island.
