Army troops have been deployed to rescue and provide relief to the people affected by the floods caused by the heavy rains that have affected the island.
Army troops have been deployed to rescue the affected people as per the need, on the advice of the Ministry of Defense and the Commander of the Army Lt. Gen. Vikum Liyanage.
The Army Commander has further instructed the Security Force Commanders to keep personnel ready in case of an emergency.
Furthermore, the army troops have started cooking stations in Malimbada and Salawa areas to provide food for the displaced people.
According to the army headquarters, one army team with boats has been deployed to Kiri Ella (Ayagama), Dehiovita (Thalduwa), Galathuru Oya (Kiri Ella), Morawaka, Thavalama, Thihagoda, and Neluwa.
As well as how to deal with the country’s security situation, members of the country’s three armed forces are regularly given formal training in emergency response through national and international training.
