State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says that steps will be taken to convert the National Identity Card number into Tax Payer Identification Number (TIN).
Mr. Siyambalapitiya emphasized that this decision was taken after a discussion with the President’s Secretary Mr. Saman Ekanayake.
The government had earlier announced that everyone above the age of 18 should register before February 1 to get this number and that people who do not do so will be fined.
However, under this new measure, although there is no new registration to obtain a TIN number, it appears that it is possible to obtain the TIN number through the existing National Identity Card number.
However, the government has not announced in detail how the tin TIN number will be registered through the new measures.
