Former Health Minister Mr. Keheliya Rambukwella says that despite the controversy regarding the importation of inferior drugs, many imported drugs are of good quality.
He further said that out of 407 types of medicines imported from India, only four were of inferior quality.
Former Health Minister, Environment Minister Mr. Keheliya Rambukwella expressed these views yesterday (06) as the chief guest at the opening of the new pharmacy center established by the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation in Pirimathalawa, Kandy.
He said that there were many obstacles in the importation of medicines under the condition of the Covid epidemic, while he was importing Covid vaccines from India, he said that due to the spread of the epidemic in India, vaccines had to be imported from other countries. He said that 05 million vaccines had been ordered, and pointed out that due to the pandemic, all orders had to be cancelled and alternative orders had to be made.
The minister said that the drugs imported from India found to be substandard were removed and other types of drugs are being used.
He further said that if those drugs were not used, there would have been a crisis in this country.
The minister further stated that he worked to the best of his ability to provide quality health care by solving the hereditary situation as well as the economic problems.
Yatinuwara Regional Coordinating Committee Chairman, Kandy District Member of Parliament Gunathilaka Rajapakse, and Chairman of the State Pharmaceutical Legalized Corporation Dr. Ajith Mendis joined the occasion.
