Major Drug Trafficking Operation Foiled as Navy Seizes 250 Kilos of Drugs

In a successful operation, the Sri Lankan Navy intercepted a multi-day trawler carrying 250 kilograms of drugs from a small ship off the southern coast. The vessel, named ‘Kavindu Putha 01,’ was captured along with six individuals involved in the drug trafficking operation. The suspects and the seized drug shipment were brought to the Southern Naval Base in Galle.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the drug trafficker orchestrating the operation is based in Dubai and played a key role in sending the narcotics to Sri Lanka. The Navy’s intervention thwarted a major drug trafficking attempt in the deep sea.

The ‘Kavindu Putha 01’ trawler, which set sail from Galle port on the 21st, was targeted by the Navy in a recent operation. The arrested suspects, hailing from Kosgoda, Beruwala, Galle, and Galgamuwa, include individuals who sailed on the same vessel.

In a coordinated effort, the Navy handed over the apprehended suspects and the confiscated drug stock to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigation. The owner of the seized trawler has also been taken into custody for questioning as authorities work to dismantle the network involved in this drug trafficking operation.
