Government’s Attention to Pay EPF for State-Plantation Employees

Plantation Enterprise Reform Minister Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says that the government is paying close attention to protecting the rights of plantation workers, including the payment of over 4 billion rupees as Employees’ Provident Funds (EPF) to be paid by the state-owned plantation companies.

The minister said this while speaking to the media after a visit to several state-owned plantation companies including Hanthana, Kelabokka and Alkaduwa.

Around one lakh people are frequently engaged in plantation-related jobs.

Also, the minister said that the President is paying close attention to protecting the people living around the estates, which number around one lakh.

The minister emphasized the need to solve the problem of illegal residents in a way that is not unfair to the government as well as the people.

In addition to this, the Minister also mentioned that the focus was on the more effective use of high commercial and tourism value lands such as Hanthana.
