Over 1.4 million tourists have visited Sri Lanka so far this year.
The weekly report on tourist arrivals released yesterday by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) shows that 1,404,998 tourists have arrived in the country by December 21, 2023.
According to the report, 128,047 tourists visited Sri Lanka between December 1 and December 21.
SLTDA data shows that only 719,978 tourists visited Sri Lanka in 2022 for the entire year.
India, Russia, Britain, Germany, Australia and China are the main countries among tourists who visited this country in December.
Tourism is one of Sri Lanka’s top foreign income earnings.
In late November, the government waived visa fees for citizens of China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia and Japan to boost tourism in the coming season.
