Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa, leader of that party, says that he confidently declares that the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna will be the strongest force in the country in the future, no matter what forces come.
He said this while addressing the National General Conference of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna held at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo this afternoon (15th).
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’s political campaign for the coming new year, “Ayubowan 2024”, was launched here.
Former leader Mahinda Rajapaksa was also appointed as the new leader of the party in this conference.
Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa also addressed the conference and said:
“All of you are the strength of our party. You are our strength. Look now, when they said that we would have a conference, they used social media to slander them. You have given a good message to the whole country for those mudslingers. Remember well. Even when we took over this country in 2005, we were slandered. You know that during the 30 years war, no leader of this country could fight face to face with Prabhakaran. Some leaders even gave weapons to Prabhakaran to stop the war. Remember ? I don’t ask who. Children who have no memory of a war are being socialized today. But now there are people who are trying to fulfill their political needs by deceiving these children. It is a group of people who do not know this information and are spreading falsehoods while following the blowhard leaders. All they did was criticize. They are good at one thing. They can make things worse well. You can start a fire, but you can’t put it out. Like kittens climbing trees. They are climbing the tree but can’t get off the tree.
In 2015, some people in the country wanted a change. What made the difference was that the economic rate dropped to minus 0.2. Unexpectedly, Covid came to a country with such a broken economic background. You may remember that we, who stopped people from dying in war, worked to stop people from dying from Covid. When we did not give up on that challenge, it was during that time programs that angered those people were started. You all know what has happened since then. Therefore, we should no longer turn a blind eye to the group that is trying to popularize lies. You know why some people behave like this. Some even prepared the suits before taking power. Anyone who wears that suit did not wear it when the country got in trouble. Are you ready to hand over the country to such leaders?
That’s why we confidently say that our party Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna is the strongest force in the country even tomorrow or in the future. Some people harassed our party members under the guise of struggle. One of our MPs was killed on the highway. If so, a commission should be appointed and investigated. We will solve these problems fairly one day in the future.”
