President Ranil Wickramasinghe says that the reopening of the Mahapola Education and Trade Fair after ten years will open the doors of higher education to a large number of people.
Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe also mentioned that the Post Graduate Center for Research at Sitawaka University will be named after the late former Minister Lalith Athulathmudali, expressing his gratitude for his service to education in this country by starting the Mahapola Scholarship Fund.
President Ranil Wickramasinghe mentioned this yesterday afternoon (14) as the chief guest on the second day of the Mahapola 2023 exhibition.
Mahapola 2023 exhibition, the biggest education and trade exhibition of the year organized by the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Food Safety, was started on the 13th at the Jaela Municipal Council Grounds.
The Mahapola Trade Fair was started in support of the Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship Fund, which was started by the late former Minister Lalith Athulathmudali, aiming to raise students of poor parents educationally.
It is special that the 226th Mahapola fair is being held this year after 10 years and this fair will be held until December 17th.
The exhibition consists of over 350 booths of various types, providing an opportunity for inventors as well as entrepreneurs to market their products.
The President also launched the website www.eservices.mahapola.lk for the online donation facility for the Lalith Athalamudali Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship Trust Fund.
Mr. Parakrama Banadara made the first donation for that fund.
President Ranil Wickramasinghe was also present to award prizes to the winners of the art, essay, short film and street drama competitions held in conjunction with Mahapola 2023.
