Gradual Reduction in Red Bills Due to New Bill System

The Ceylon Electricity Board says that according to the e-bill system introduced by the Ceylon Electricity Board, the issuance of red bills is gradually being reduced.

The board says that the electricity bill has to be paid after one month of electricity consumption and majority of consumers pay their electricity bills on time.

Usually, a red bill is given after a month has passed.

Apart from this, a grace period of 10 days will be given after red bills are issued.

Power disconnection is done only after that.

Instead, the outstanding amount will be instantly notified to the customers via SMS.

It informs the due amount very efficiently.

This method is more efficient and cheaper than printing and distributing red bills.

Moreover, by November 2023, there are 35,848 accounts in zero consumption due to various reasons such as disconnection, foreclosure, lack of residents, demolition of houses and construction of new houses.

According to the above data, 573,073 electricity was disconnected and reconnected in 2019.

2020 and 2021 due to the Covid epidemic situation, that figure decreased.

    2022 power cuts limited outages.

And on average, about 150,000 new customers get new electricity connections per year.

Accordingly, 544,488 power outages and reconnections were made in 2023, which is normal compared to 2019.

And the arrears to be paid by the customers from January to October 2023 are shown in the table below. Here too, the outstanding amount does not show an increase.
