An audit report shows that even though it has been planned since 2014 to establish a system for automatic payment of fines (Spot Fine Information System) to speed up the collection of fines in receiving traffic cases, it has not been implemented so far.
This has been revealed by the audit report issued by the Auditor General’s Department for the year 2022 regarding the financial status of government institutions.
Apart from speeding up the collection of fines, the purpose of this was to increase the amount of fines added to the state revenue and make it easier for the public to pay fines.
Those plans were prepared when Mr. NK Ilangakoon was the Inspector General of Police, in such a way that fines could be paid at the same time by mobile phone.
But so far the plan has not been implemented. This has been specifically mentioned in the audit report stating that efforts should be made to establish an automatic fine payment system in such a way that the identified objectives are fulfilled.
In this regard, the police point out that after the approval of the cabinet, the project will be carried out under the full supervision of the Ministry of Public Security.
