A protest is planned to be held in front of all the institutions related to the government today (November 27).
It was by the public sector employees based on several demands, including increasing their salaries.
Several public service trade unions, including the State and Provincial Public Service Union, have planned this protest together.
This protest is scheduled to be carried out for one hour by the government employees during the lunch break starting at 12.00 noon today.
The protest is also pressuring the government for a Rs. 20,000 pay hike for government employees, to be implemented from January next year and to restore the canceled full pension entitlement.
The planned protest is scheduled to be held in front of all government institutions this afternoon and the main protest is planned to be held in front of the Battaramulla Setsiripaya building.
Minister of State for Finance Dr. Ranjith Siambalapitiya has said that the government is working hard to pay half (Rs.5000.00) of the salary increase of Rs. 10000 for the government employees and the increased amount of Rs.2500 to the pensioners from next January mentioned in the budget proposals for the year 2024.
