Kandy District Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Center Mr. Indika Ranaweera said that the National Building Research Organization has informed today to avoid using the Gannoruwa-Gohagoda main road as the road may be blocked by the overturning of mounds with boulders.
The Assistant Director also said that the National Building Research Organization informed the Disaster Management Center that the area with the main road is still risky according to the field observation of the road.
Due to heavy rains, many landslides and rockfalls occurred on the mountain slope parallel to the Gannoruwa-Gohagoda road in recent days. Due to this, traveling by foot and vehicles is risky, so the Assistant Director requests the public to use alternative routes.
Assistant Director Mr. Indika Ranaweera said that in the Kandy district, risky areas are being monitored and under the supervision of the Kandy district secretary Mr. Chandana Thennakone, the families at risk are being directed to safe places.
