COPE Chairman Reveals His Intentions on Using the Hand Signal

the Chairman of the Committee Professor Ranjith Bandara has given an explanation in the Parliament about the reason why he gave the ‘Hand Signal’ while questioning the committee members when the Sri Lanka Cricket Board was called to the COPE Committee yesterday.

Several MPs asked the Speaker in today’s sitting to conduct an investigation into the Chairman’s hand signal.

He said that all the members of the committee as well as a large number of invited members were present at the COPE meeting where cricket authorities were being questioned, and he felt the need to establish a control during that situation.

The Chairman reminded the Sports Minister that what is seen on social networks like Facebook cannot be asked in the COPE Committee and further said that he told his members by hand signal to ask questions only from the Auditor General’s report and only one person to speak at a time.

The chairman further emphasized in the meeting that the COPE committee should not be politicized and should think carefully about its responsibility.
