The National Meteorological Center of the Department of Meteorology rejects media reports that the meteorologists who carry out forecasting work have ‘only passed the GCE O/L examination’.
They point out that 7 of the 8 meteorologists working on 24-hour duties are completing their post-graduate studies and performing their duties.
The center also announced that to join the service as a meteorologist, a bachelor’s degree in physics or mathematics with at least a second class upper class pass is required.
Moreover, the center emphasizes that they must pass the competitive exam conducted for that purpose and pass the interview as well.
The Center claims that such fake reports are trying to spread lies by undermining the real nature of the Meteorological Department and denying such reports.
However, the National Meteorological Center also emphasized that it will inform the administration of the department that it is necessary to take legal action regarding these false reports.
