Wellawatta Police has arrested a retired senior DIG who has been the head of the Criminal Investigation Department who caused an accident while driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police information stated that while the officer was traveling along the Marine drive towards Bambalapitiya, the jeep he was driving collided with the rear of a Wagon R car parked on the road at Wellawatta.
The police say that after this accident which happened at around 3.30 am, the Wagon R pulled forward and collided with another vehicle.
In this regard, the Wellawatta Police arrested this retired Senior DIG and it has been confirmed during the drunkenness test that he was drinking. This officer will be produced in court this morning.

The Mt. Lavinia Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of Mr. Ravi Seneviratne, the retired Senior DIG, who was the head of the Criminal Investigation Department who caused an accident while driving under the influence of alcohol.
