    “Treat everyone equally when solving debt problems” – America

    The United States emphasizes the importance of equal and fair treatment of all creditors in Sri Lanka in the debt restructuring process.

    The American ambassador to this country, Julie Chang, said this when she met Mr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

    She has expressed her congratulations to the Governor of the Central Bank on reaching the staff level agreement of the IMF, marking the progress of Sri Lanka’s efforts to obtain the second tranche of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

    She has also pointed out the need to do it with fairness in debt restructuring in Sri Lanka.

    Also, the ambassador is of the opinion that it is very important to work with transparency from all parties involved in those activities.

    The Ambassador has also emphasized to the Governor of the Central Bank that the United States is always committed to an economy that values fairness, transparency, integrity and inclusion while ensuring the stability and growth of Sri Lanka.
